Q: what are the symptoms of diabetes?
my friend thinks she might have diabetes. she is going to get tested for it but i was wondering what the symptoms are.
she is thirsty alot and pees alot.
i know those are the most common symptoms but what are the others?

A: Diabetes Type 1: Symtoms of type 2

In type 1, the pancreas stop producing insulin, due to autuimmune response or possibly viral attack on pancreas. In absence of insulin, body cells does not get glucose for producing ATP (Adenosin Triphosphate) units which results into primary symptom in the form of nausea and vomiting. In latter stage which leads to ketoacidosis in which body starts breaking down muscle tissue and fat for energy, there is consequently fast weight loss. Dehydration is also usually observed due to electrolyte disturbance. In advance stages even coma and death, are being witnessed.

Diabetes Type 2:

* Increased fatigue : Due to inefficiency of cell to metabolise glucose, reserve fat of body is metabolised to gain energy. When fat is broken down in the body, it uses more energy as compared to glucose, hence body goes in negative calorie effect, which results in fatigue.
* Polydipsia : As the concentration of glucose increases in the blood, brain receives signal for diluting it and in its counteraction we feel thirsty.
* Polyuria: Increase in urine production is the result seen when excess of glucose is present in body. Body tries to get rid of the extra sugar in the blood by excreting it through the urine. This can also lead to dehydration because excreting the sugar which carries a large amount of water out of the body along with it.
* Polyphegia : The hormone insulin is also responsible for stimulating hunger. In order to cope up with high sugar levels in blood, body produces insulin which leads to increased hunger.
* Weight flactuation : Factors like loss of water (polyuria), glucosuria , metabolism of body fat and protein may lead to loss of weight. Few cases may show weight gain due to increased appetite.
* Blurry vision : Hyperosmolar hyperglycemia nonketotic syndrome is the condition when body fluid is pulled out of tissues including lenses of eye, which affects the ability of lenses to focus resulting in blurry vision.
* Irritability : It is one of the sign of high blood sugar because of the inefficient supply of glucose to brain and other body organs, which makes us feel tired and uneasy.
* Infections : Certain signals from the body is given whenever there is fluctuation of blood sugar (due to suppression of immune system) by frequent infections of fungal or bacterial like skin infection or UTI (urinary tract infection).
* Poor wound healing : High blood sugar resists the flourishing of WBC, (white blood cell) which are responsible for body immune system. When these cells do not function accordingly, wound healing is not at good pace. Secondly, long standing diabetes leads to thickening of blood vessels which may affect proper circulation of blood in different body parts.

And now you know

Q: Do you have to experience all the symptoms to have diabetes?
Ok i just took a blood test 2 weeks ago it was 112 after non-fasting. I am currently cutting down on sugary foods and am excercising everyday. I have an overactive bladder but not excessevely thirsty (thankyou jesus). Ok i just want to know that do you have to experience all the symptoms to have diabetes?? Pay attention to the word all……..

Thanks

A: You are doing good by cutting your carbs as it will prevent you from being diabetic

Random blood sugar of 112 is Ok .
Most of the the diabetic patients dont have all the symptoms , the best way to diagnose is to have the OGTT (Oral gucose tolerance test ) it will give you a better idea of being normal, prediabetic or diabetic

HbA1C will tell you how well you have managed your blood glucose levels in the past three months.

Q: What constitutes “frequent urination” when it comes to diabetes symptoms?
I was just wondering.

Is it every 5 minutes?
Every 15 minutes?
Every 30 minutes?
Every 2 hours?
Every 4 hours?

If someone could help me out, I’d appreciate it. Thanks!

A: Just before my husband was diagnosed with type I he was going about 1-2 times an hour during some parts of the day. It usually followed sugary drinks. He was experiencing the extreme thirst and was drinking Gatorade which was then causing him to use the restroom very often, he said it was often painful to go. If you are going much more often than usual and experiencing any other symptoms you should go and get check right away.

Q: The Symptoms of juvenile diabetes include fatigue, increased urine output and thirst.?
why do these symptoms occur? Why would you urinate more when you have diabetes? What causes these symptoms?

A: Jessica,
There is not an exact finding as to why and how diabetes occur but symptoms are listed below:-
n both the types of diabetes, signs and symptoms are more likely to be similar as the blood sugar is high, either due to less production of insulin, or no production or insulin resistance. In any of the case if there is inadequate glucose in the cells, it can be identified through certain signs and symptoms. These symptoms are quickly relieved once the Diabetes is treated and also reduce the chances of developing serious health problems.

Q: Can the symptoms for pregnancy and diabetes be mixed up?
I think I could be pregnant but I am not 100% sure, but my brother was recently diagnosed with diabetes and some of the symptoms are the same. Is it possible to get these two confused?

A: Well, some symptoms are the same – like being thirsty and needing to pee a lot, although this tends to happen later in the pregnancy because the baby is pressing on the bladder. Fainting is also a sign of both.

However, there are also a lot of symptoms that don’t overlap and I personally haven’t heard of anyone thinking they were one and found they were the other. Your best bet is to take a pregnancy test and if it comes out negative go and see your GP, who will do a blood test and then you can get a definitive answer one way or the other.

Q: Do my symptoms sound like diabetes to you?
I have had odd symptoms for a while now and I never knew that any of them could be related. I was reading this website about diabetes and they seem to all fit. I have had

dizzyness
trouble sleeping through the night
blurred vision
constant bladder infections
tingling in my legs
very very dizzy if i miss even one meal
trouble with arousal

what do you think?

A: Go to your doctor asap. You seem to have some of the symptoms, others being always thirsty.

Q: What are the specific symptoms of type 1 diabetes?
All the symptoms I’ve found online are very broad..are there any specific ones? Can diabetes weaken one’s immune system?

A: Type 1 diabetes can occur at any age but usually first appears in childhood or adolescence. Type 1 diabetes accounts for 5 – 10% of all diabetes cases. Symptoms of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes include:

•Frequent urination
•Excessive thirst
•Extreme hunger
•Sudden weight loss
•Extreme fatigue
•Irritability
•Blurred vision
Warning Signs of Hypoglycemia

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) occurs when blood sugar (glucose) levels fall below normal. Patients with type 1 diabetes should be aware of these symptoms of hypoglycemia:

•Sweating
•Trembling
•Hunger
•Rapid heartbeat
•Confusion
It is important to quickly treat hypoglycemia and raise blood sugar levels by eating sugar, sucking on hard candy, or drinking fruit juice. Patients who are at risk for hypoglycemia should carry some sugar product with them in case an attack occurs. In rare and worst cases, hypoglycemia can lead to coma and death. Regular blood sugar monitoring throughout the day can help you avoid hypoglycemia. Patients are also encouraged to wear a medical alert ID bracelet or necklace that states they have diabetes and that they take insulin.

Q: What are the MOST frequent symptoms of type II diabetes?
I already know the common symptoms overall as I’ve checked a few diabetes sites as well as webmd. What I’m wondering is, if you’ve been diagnosed or know someone who has, what were the most frequently occurring symptoms that you experienced or heard of others experiencing?

Thank you.

A: I had all the usual symtoms like being thirsty, and peeing and weight loss, but I had itching from hell !!! There was no rash, but my skin itched so bad, I was going crazy. I also got yeast infections one after the other and blurry vision

Q: Is there any disease which can be confused to be diabetes or has similar symptoms like that of diabetes?
Please list those diseases and the symptoms common between them and diabetes!

A: what symptoms are you having?

one of the symptoms is fatigue. that’s also a symptom of THOUSANDS of other ailments out there.

another is unexplained weight loss, especially for type 1. again, there are tons of illnesses that can cause that.

increased urination. prostate problems instantly come to mind with this one but, again, it’s a symptom of many things

increased thirst. you guessed it…lots of stuff.

Q: what are some causes of diabetes and what symptoms should i look for?
sometimes i think i have diabetes because i have most if not all of the symptoms i read about but i’m still not sure if i have diabetes. I would appreciate serveral symptoms and examples if you have diabetes i would appreciate your knowledge of it :) thanks!

A: To be diagnosed with diabetes you need to have two fasting blood sugars over 100. You eat nothing after midnight and go to the doctors office in the morning and get a finger stick two times. 100-125 is pre-diabetes and requires further testing. Over 125 is diabetes. It is pretty simple. To answer your question directly, early signs of diabetes could be frequent nighttime urination, unusually clear large volumes of urine, sweet smelling urine, dehydration, drymouth, fatigue, weight loss followed by weight gain. Why guess….get tested. If you fast overnight and your finger stick is in the 125 plus range, you are probably positve. I thought I might be diabetic and had the blood test which turned out to be negative. I have a strong family history of diabetes and was worried as are you. The good thing about an early diagnosis of prediabetes is that diet and exercise and some weight loss can sometimes get rid of it. good luck

Q: Could i have diabetes? What are the signs or symptoms of diabetes? Should i contact my doctor?
I have to always take long deep breaths, i cant stand being in a hot room evenif it is really large i just feel like i cannot breathe, also i have been feeling dizzy when i stand up almost everytime i stand up and i have lost my appitite a few weeks ago and dont really feel like eating

Could i have diabetes? What are the signs or symptoms of diabetes? Should i contact my doctor?
i always have to pee and i am always thirsty

A: You probably feel dizzy because you haven’t been eating much for a few weeks. I don’t think anybody likes being in a hot room.

Signs of diabetes can include being very thirsty, drinking a lot, peeing a lot, blurry vision, suddenly losing weight and feeling hungrier than usual. Do you have any of those symptoms?

You should go see a doctor regardless. The dizziness and feeling like you can’t get enough air are not things that healthy people experience. Plus losing your appetite could point to a problem.

Yes, you should contact your doctor.

Good luck!

Q: what are the first symptoms of diabetes 2 ?
what are the first symptoms of diabetes 2 ?

A: More often than not… none. I had no noticeable symptoms at all. My type two was discovered during a routine physical.

There was a question here on answers a few days ago asking what your reading was when you were diagnosed. Judging by the other answers, which were several times higher than my numbers, I would say that most people go for years undiagnosed. As I look back, I did have mild symptoms for a couple of years prior to being diagnosed. Tired and grumpy come to mind. Most of these people who are citing these symptoms are either repeating what they’ve heard or read in a book or on a website, or were so far advanced that the symptoms were more pronounced. It comes on so gradually, that most folks don’t even notice the symptoms for years. Read this:

Q: What were your symptoms when first diagnosed with diabetes? Or did you have any symptoms at all?
I really think i have diabetes and i want to hear what some all ready diagnosed peoples symptoms were. And what is a normal blood glucose level for someone that does not know they have diabetes?
I am a kid at a healthy weight

A: Blurred vision
fatigue
unexplained weight loss
frequent urination
frequent thirst
headaches, etc.

I was admitted into the hospital with a glucose level of 525

That was 16 years ago. I am a type 1 diabetic. Diabetes does not run in my family. ————————————-

Q: can diabetes sometimes be mistaken for leukemia symptoms?
the symptoms of diabetes and leukemia are very similar, i am getting blood drawn for tests and i’m very scared what the result may be. either they are very similar or i’m just reading up on too many disease symptoms and freaking myself out. what do you think?

A: You’re freaking yourself out; take it as it comes and relax.

I always thought the big sign of leukemia is unexplained bruising which isn’t a symptom of diabetes – but don’t worry till you know for sure. Positive thinking is very important. Good luck :)

Q: Are these diabetes symptoms, or am I overreacting?
My hands tend to be noticeably shaky if it’s been a while since I’ve eaten. Do most people get this way when hungry?

Also, on occasion I have sweet smelling urine – normally this will happen in the morning or if I’ve been outside working and gotten really hot.

A: most people pee out more than drink and are very thirsty
