Q: What are the signs of diabetes? And is it possible that i could have it?
Just like the headline, what are the signs of diabetes? I’ve gone around looking up on the internet and some medical books and found that the symptoms are, increased hunger, thirst, fatigue, increase in urination both volume and frequency. But what else are there?
And so far i’ve noticed that i’ve been experiencing both increased thirst and urination, but not much of hunger out of all those. Is there a possible chance that i could have it?
A: The best thing you can do would be going to your local doctor and getting a diagnosis.. Try to limit the amount of sugars you eat. Diabetes is caused by to many sugars. U should also drink plenty of water. Water is the defense against diabetes remember that. Also excersise alot. I personally dont think u have diabetes..Unless ur overweight, or have a history of family with diabetes or never excersise but you should be fine..:) I piss alot too lol. u might just be drinking too much liquids.
Q: How long can you have signs of diabetes before you get into trouble?
Our office receptionist has been getting the signs of diabetes (thirsty, going to the loo a lot, blurred vision, headaches, tiredness) for the last week, and she has a history in the family. I am concerned, both as a friend, and as one of the company First Aiders. How quickly should she be getting to a dr (she “doesn’t want to make a fuss”), and, more importantly, how long, if she leaves it, would it be before something major happens?
A: How long can’t be guessed. She could suddenly have very serious and emergent problems or have the signs come and go or anything in between. It could change to sudden also. She shouldn’t wait. The longer she goes with even minr symptoms, the more likely to she can have related problems which may not be reversible or create chronic health problems. p.s. – urine testing gives only indicator signs to doctors, it is not used to diagnose diabetes. Blood testing and glucose tolerance testing are used for diagnosis.
Q: What are the signs of diabetes?
I have two signs of diabetes, being thirsty all the time, and having to go to the bathroom a lot. What are other signs, so I know if I should get tested or not?
A: Here are the most common symptoms.
Frequent urination (causing the kidneys to work harder) due to excessive urine
Excessive thirst
Tired and weak-flu like symptoms-causing maybe a slow down in activity levels
Hunger and increased appetite-causing weight gain
Weight loss in spite of eating more or weight gain fluctuations
Less common are
Tiredness-just a general lack of energy from the food not being metabolized
Dry skin
Dry mouth-causing thirst
Head aches and pains
Blurred vision
Impotence
Yeast infections
Difficulty in healing sores frequent infections
Nerve damage-numbness in extremities
There is absolutely no harm in erring on the side of caution for these symptoms. It is always best to check especially if you are in a high risk category or have some inherited high risk factors.

Q: What are some early signs of diabetes?
I’m 19 and I’m scared that I maybe getting diabetes. It runs on both sides of my family so i know the chances are pretty likely but usually no one gets it til there older. Please help me out. If you know any good sites to read up on this I would appreciate it. ALso off topic do you know the earliest you can tell signs of pregnancy and if you know any good sites for early signs please let me know. Thank yoU!
A: There are 3 good signs of possible diabetes…you pee a lot, drink a lot and you are hungry all the time. If you have these, get yourself checked out ASAP. Early signs of pregnancy vary and all are considered presumptive. The only true verification of a pregnancy is seeing a fetal skeletal outline on an x-ray, seeing fetal movement and having a baby. Get a pregnancy test and do it on the first urine of the day.
Q: What are early signs of diabetes? And what kind of testing is done to check for it?
I bruise easily and was told it could be a sign of diabetes. I am only 27. Also what do doctors do to test for diabetes?
Also I get light headed sometimes, hotflashes, can go from happy to sad at times,I do urinate frequently but always have, sometimes I feel weak like I dont have energy like usual I dont know if any of these symptoms have anything to do w/ this but if I dont control my moods my husband is going to leave me. I dont know whats going on. I will get a bruise and it will take months for it to disappear. I was adopted so I dont know much about my medical history but I do know diabetes, strokes, cancer, thyroid disease runs on my bio. fathers side. I get chest pains on the left side of my chest but its hard to tell what it is from indigestion its not real intense but it is bothersome @ times.
A: 1) Excessive thirst; constant thirst
2) Tired all the time; no amount of rest makes this better. Not enough energy to do ADL’s. I sometimes would make a batter and literally not have the energy to put it from the bowl into the pan into the oven, I was so sick, and didn’t know it. This disease totally mimics chronic fatigue syndrome.
3) Some people are hungry all the time, no matter how much they eat. Some people lose weight no matter how much they eat. Some people completely lose their appetite.
4) Extreme mood swings; emotional volatility, irritability, inability to cope w/ sometimes even the smallest problems or issues, as in literally NOT HAVING THE ENERGY TO COPE W/ SOMETHING, not wimping out.
5) Sometimes, symptoms of undiagnosed/untreated diabetes can mimic Manic-Depressive Disorder, or BPD (Bi-Polar Disorder).
6) In my own life, I have found hot flashes, anxiety attacks, “red in the face” issues, inability to deal w/ heat and humidity to be symptoms of blood sugars way too high, too.
7) Any significant changes in vision, of any kind– GO GET CHECKED OUT!
Sometimes extreme depression sometimes with no obvious causes, as in out of keeping w/ a person’s normal character.
9) Frequent urination, especially at night.
10) Craving sweets can also be a symptom.
11) The person’s breath can smell “fruity” or “pear-like”.
Most medical folks will take blood to check blood sugar and will also do a test called a Hemoglobin A1-C which will tell them what your bloodsugars have be running/trending for the last 3 months/90 days or so. Some doctors will order a Glucose Tolerance Test, but if your fasting blood sugar is above I think it’s 120 now (used to be 140), your Dr. will strongly be suspecting diabetes.
Q: What are the signs of diabetes and when should I be tested?
Lately I’ve found myself urinating quite oftem, very thristy, and feeling very nauseated when I have eaten something in a few hours. Could this possibly be symptons of diabetes?
Diabetes does run in the family and I just found out that two more realitives were diagnosed. They are much older though, I’m only 23. I’m hoping that I am just being paranoid.
What are the symptoms and what can I do to make sure I don’t get them if at all possible?
A: Go get checked if there is any doubt at all. Here are a list of symptoms. Some people don’t have any symptoms, and some people have symptoms not listed here.
Constant thirst
Frequent urination
Constant hunger
Unexplained weight gain or loss
Blurry vision
Slow healing wounds
Reoccurring yeast infection in women, itching penis in men
Frequent boils
Irritability
Headaches
Tingling sensation in arms, hands, feet or legs
Leg cramps
Watch your diet, and get daily exercise. You have a risk factor since it is in your family. Taking care of yourself now can keep diabetes at bay for awhile, but there is no way to actually prevent it. It does not matter if you are overweight or not. Diabetes causes the weight gain in many people in a lot of cases. 51% of type 2 diabetics have never been over weight and have a normal diet. Type 1 can be diagnosed from infancy to around age 30. This is the type that is insulin dependent. Type 2 is usually diagnosed after the age of 30 and is treated with oral med, insulin or both. Some people can control it for many years by diet and exercise, but it usually requires medication in later years. Type 2 is becoming more prevelant recently in grade school age kids over the last few years, and they expect a great rise in the number of people that develop it. Certain drugs, (sterioids,
cortisterioids, some blood pressure medications, certain drugs used in cancer treatment, are among some of the drugs) disease that affects the pancreas, and injury to the pancreas can also lead to or contribute to the development of type 2 diabetes. There is no cure for type 2 or type 1 except pancreas transplant.
Q: Whats the signs of diabetes? Is there a herbal that will help me start my period?
diabetes run in my family,is there away to find if i have it without going to a doctor?what can i take for it in herbal?or is there anything a person can with a prescription?
A: Signs and Symptoms of Diabetes:
• Increased thirst
• Going to the loo (for a wee) all the time – especially at night
• Extreme tiredness
• Weight loss
• Blurred vision
• Genital itching or regular episodes of thrush
• Slow healing of wounds
• Nausea
• Dizzyness
• Funny taste in your mouth, that is described as smelling like pear drops
• Lack of concentration
• A big change in appetite
In Type 1 diabetes the signs and symptoms will usually be very obvious, developing quickly, usually over a few weeks.
In people with Type 2 diabetes the signs and symptoms will not be so obvious or even non-existent in people with Type 2 diabetes. If you’re older you may put the symptoms down to ‘getting on a bit’. Taking early action is key so if any of the symptoms apply to you, ask your GP for a diabetes test.
In both types of diabetes, the symptoms are quickly relieved once the diabetes is treated. Early treatment will also reduce the chances of developing serious health problems.
Treatment for diabetes depends on the type of diabetes you have. With type 2, it can be controlled with tablets (such as Metformin) or diet alone. However, type 1 diabetes can only be treated with insulin injections.
Keep yourself healthy, exercise regularly and make sure your heart is in good condition. If you have any concerns – go and see your GP. It is genetic and the more you ignore it, the worse it will be.
Hope this helps, I’m not sure about a herbal to start your periods, but you should try finding a herbalist. My old tutor is a herbalist, shame I’m not still intouch with her.
Take care
Q: what are the signs of diabetes?
my grandfather on my mother’s side had diabetes, and i’m worried about that. are there any signs that i can look for?
A: there are a lot of warning signs but the only way to know for sure is to talk to your doctor and get tested. my mother was just diagnosed. my mother in law, that is very health conscious and thin, was also suprisingly diagnosed at the same time. diabetes can often do damage before there are any warning signs. if it is in your family, you should get tested regularly. i found a great book about it that is very easy to read (un-dr language) called Outsmart Diabetes by Prevention Magazine. I got it at my local drug store. It explains it in very plain English. It also has exercise and diet advice. Check it out, I think it was $10, totally worth it. Take care!
Q: What are the signs of diabetes or thyroid?
I am concerned that I might either be diabetic or have a thyroid condition. I have several people on both sides of my family who have one or the other. I really would like to know what are some signs of both and at what point should I go the doctor and what kind of tests and questions should I ask. Thanks for your time.
A: You’ll find everything you need to know here: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/
TSH is NOT a thyroid hormone! This web site tells you what labs to specifically ask for when you see your doctor. Hypothyroid can also mess with your sugars. There’s a long and pitiful laundry list of symptoms: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/long-and-pathetic/
Q: What were your first signs of diabetes?
Hi, I just recently had a fasting blood glucose 2hr. Done and am waiting for the results. In the meantime I am wondering what were your first signs of diabetes? I am obese and am craving sugar big time. That is all I want. I also have been breaking out in a cold sweat a lot especially right after I eat. That along with the constant urination makes me think I may have it. How did you now???? Thanks!
A: FIrst, i didn’t want anything with sugar when I got diabetes. It raised my blood sugar way to high, and I felt horribly sick(I did not have insulin because no one knew i was diabetic). Next, I practically inhaled water. I became extremely lethargic and would sleep and be severely sluggish. THe frequent urrination came from the large intake of water my body craved. I felt like i was in the middle of a desert with no water. my mouth felt constantly scratchy and foamy. I threw up from my blood being so high.
Q: What is the signs of diabetes?
I want to know what are the signs of diabetes? I had a glucose level of 136, which I know is high but want to know the other signs?
A: Diabetes Type 1: Symtoms of type 2
In type 1, the pancreas stop producing insulin, due to autuimmune response or possibly viral attack on pancreas. In absence of insulin, body cells does not get glucose for producing ATP (Adenosin Triphosphate) units which results into primary symptom in the form of nausea and vomiting. In latter stage which leads to ketoacidosis in which body starts breaking down muscle tissue and fat for energy, there is consequently fast weight loss. Dehydration is also usually observed due to electrolyte disturbance. In advance stages even coma and death, are being witnessed.
Diabetes Type 2:
* Increased fatigue : Due to inefficiency of cell to metabolise glucose, reserve fat of body is metabolised to gain energy. When fat is broken down in the body, it uses more energy as compared to glucose, hence body goes in negative calorie effect, which results in fatigue.
* Polydipsia : As the concentration of glucose increases in the blood, brain receives signal for diluting it and in its counteraction we feel thirsty.
* Polyuria: Increase in urine production is the result seen when excess of glucose is present in body. Body tries to get rid of the extra sugar in the blood by excreting it through the urine. This can also lead to dehydration because excreting the sugar which carries a large amount of water out of the body along with it.
* Polyphegia : The hormone insulin is also responsible for stimulating hunger. In order to cope up with high sugar levels in blood, body produces insulin which leads to increased hunger.
* Weight flactuation : Factors like loss of water (polyuria), glucosuria , metabolism of body fat and protein may lead to loss of weight. Few cases may show weight gain due to increased appetite.
* Blurry vision : Hyperosmolar hyperglycemia nonketotic syndrome is the condition when body fluid is pulled out of tissues including lenses of eye, which affects the ability of lenses to focus resulting in blurry vision.
* Irritability : It is one of the sign of high blood sugar because of the inefficient supply of glucose to brain and other body organs, which makes us feel tired and uneasy.
* Infections : Certain signals from the body is given whenever there is fluctuation of blood sugar (due to suppression of immune system) by frequent infections of fungal or bacterial like skin infection or UTI (urinary tract infection).
* Poor wound healing : High blood sugar resists the flourishing of WBC, (white blood cell) which are responsible for body immune system. When these cells do not function accordingly, wound healing is not at good pace. Secondly, long standing diabetes leads to thickening of blood vessels which may affect proper circulation of blood in different body parts.
And now you Know!

Q: What are the signs of Diabetes for a teen girl?
Im skinny and have perfectly normal weight. But ive been eating alot lately and i also have family history of diabetes(mom and dad). My friend who is diabetic said that she never got her period and thats how she found out she has diabetes type 1.
and my period is about 2 weeks late and ive been gaining a few pounds lately..
please help?
A: Weight gain or weight loss can be symptoms of diabetes, as can an increased thirst, irritability, increased or decreased hunger, fatigue, or yeast infection. I don’t remember my sister’s doctor mentioning anything about a missed period.
Irregular periods and weight gain can be symptoms of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, PCOS, which is also related to insulin.
I’ve attached links on both disorders for you.
Q: What are some of signs of diabetes? My daughter was told by her doctor that she may be diabetic.?
She is always thirsty, hungry and has to go the bathroom a lot. There is a history of diabetes on my side and my husband’s side of the family. She is 17 and does not want to be tested, I know that I can still make her, but what can I do to help her to realize that she really needs to do this?
A: Sad to say that even though you can force her to be tested, you can’t force her to take care of herself.
Tell her that she is at risk for losing her eyesight. She will experience decreased kidney function and will end up on dialysis or a transplant waiting list. She will have poor circulation in her extremities and risks amputation because of it. If she drives and blacks out behind the wheel and causes an accident she risks losing her license.
Explain to her that these are the extremes that can and will happen if diabetes goes untreated. Then take her to a hospital where she can see this with her own eyes. I know it sounds harsh but sometimes it’s the only thing that will work. It’s what my folks did to me when I didn’t want to take care of myself.
Q: what are some signs of diabetes?
My family has a large history of people with diabetes..even my dog.the wii fit said i was at risk of being over weight. almost every morning i have white mouth. does this mean i have diabetes? and what are some other signs? thanks!
A: I am a type 1 diabetic and here are some of the symptoms I had before I was diagnosed:
Frequent urination
extreme thirst
extreme hunger
always extremely tired
light headed
weird vision
irritable
This is all because my blood sugar was too high! I went in to a doctor…not the hospital…and had a urine dip done and they were able to tell that my situation was serious. However, it is possible that you have type 2 diabetes if you are overweight. In any case I would get it checked out soon…your life may depend on it. I hope this helps.
