Q: Does running in cold weather correlate to jaw pain?
I’ve ran Cross-Country all year and have experienced no jaw pain. In today’s meet, a cold front went through, forcing us to run in the cold. Following the race, my jaw just hurt. Please note, I had my mouth wide open during the race-like I always do- and was not clencing my jaw.
Could the cold weather have affected anything?
A: Not that I am aware of (on the correlation between the running in the cold weather and the jaw pain).
I would recommend seeing your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think could be going on.
Q: Is it normal to have gum and jaw pain after having a filling done?
I had the very last tooth on the bottom right side of my mouth filled from a cavity and after the numbing has worn off I’m still having pain in my left side jaw by the joint. And also having pain in the gum area behind my last tooth. Where my wisdom tooth should but, I don’t have wisdom teeth because I had them pulled. Any advice?
Thank you!
A: I feel you girl!! I was just at the dentist today getting a filling. I hate it!!!!!!! It’s normal..if they were a bit rough with you… I’m sure the pain will subside after a few days. They may have knicked your gums…depending on what treatment they used to do the filling and also which surface of the tooth had the cavity. I’m always sore leaving the dentist cuz they do a good job cleaning. You’ll be fine… If it persists for more than 3-4 days, call them and ask them what’s up with it.
Q: Can a broken mouthguard cause jaw pain?
I use a mouthguard nightly to protect against grinding. About two weeks ago, the mouthguard broke in the middle. I have still been using it as two pieces. The two pieces fit onto my teeth perfectly and it feels like one piece when installed. However, I have been developing jaw pain on the right side of my face recently. It is difficult for me to bite all the way down on my teeth, and it hurts if I do. Could the mouthguard be causing this somehow? Don’t want to spend money on a new one if not.
A: Yes it can, get it fixed
Q: My jaw pain is intense and I think it’s because of my tooth sensitivity?
I had a filing done in my back molar. The sensitivity calmed a few weeks after, but now 5 weeks later it’s started again. I am avoiding eating on that side since hot/cold are both bothering me. My jaw is now aching with pain and I can’t take any meds that seem to help. My dentist hasn’t returned my call!! Any ideas?
A: It initially sounds as tho’ the nerve has gone south…basically the filling has “offended” the nerve and it is now in the process of dying. To save the tooth, you may need a root canal. or y ou can extract it…. you may also benefit from antibiotics for a week or so if they can’t get you in right away to start the root canal. Those will kick in in 24-48 hrs.
Basically, this isn’t necessarily the dentist’s fault; some fillings are just too deep and end up not working.
As for not returning your calls, most dentists don’t work Fridays…. So call around ’til you find one that does and then maybe transfer your care to someone who responds to emergencies.
I do’nt work Fridays, but I have my cell phone on the ans. machine and am, in fact, going in in two hours to see someone w/ almost identical symptoms to yours… it breaks my heart cuz the filling from a week ago was SO pretty….
good luck!
Q: What’s better for jaw pain? an ice pack or a heating pad?
I think I clench my teeth in my sleep, but whatever the reason, I have a lot of pain in my jaw when I wake up and if I’ve been up too long. What’s better to wear to sleep, a heating pad or an ice pack?
A: But if you are doing it for the pain then you would want to do the heat. There is also one more alternative that you missed, if you want to get rid of it all together. Here is how you can do that:
Put your fingers on your head so your thumbs are behind your ears. Place them next to the skull and push forward onto the back of the jawbone and press a moderate pressure there. After 30 seconds slowly raise your head until your neck is fully extended. Then open your mouth all the way and hold. Now release the pressure but hold your mouth and neck like that for another 30 seconds. the pain should be gone.
Q: Can anyone tell me I am having terrible jaw pain, could an impacted wisdom tooth cause pain to my front teeth?
My back wisdom tooth is trying to come in crooked and the whole side of my jaw hurts with pain going into my ear and pains shooting up towards my eye.
A: Yes, it can radiate to the front. Mine did before I had mine removed several years ago. It was pushing all my teeth and I could feel pain in my front teeth as well. You really need to see your dentist and he may refer you to an oral surgeon to extract it.
Q: Is it normal to have lots of ear and jaw pain after a tonsillectomy?
I just had my tonsils and adenoids taken out 3 days ago. the following day i felt fine, and then, that night i was in excruciating pain in both my ears. i went to the e.r. and found out i had a ear infection as well. they switched my meds, but nothing seems to help for the pain. Any ideas of what i could do to help the pain?
A: Hi! I had my tonsils and adenoids taken out about 2 months ago. The pain for me was very mild, until day 7 when i bled and needed to be cauterized, BUT no fear it only happens to about 1 in 30,000 people! lucky me! anyway … like i said my pain was not TERRIBLE, until i had that little incident and then in all honesty, my ears hurt more than my throat b/c it was referred pain from the throat going up into my ears. nothing was wrong with my ears, i would usually just take tylenol and it would feel better, in the case when i bled, the doc had me gargle a solution that made my throat numb until i couldnt feel the pain. also, i did lay with both a cold pack and a hot back off and on and i feel like the hot pack made me feel better. i would try the tylenol and packs and if it doesnt work and you are in terrible pain, call your ENT during office hours (i doubt they would rush to the hospital to meet you on a weekend over an ear infection, unless you were bleeding) and they should make it a priority to see you ASAP! hope this helped!
Q: Is anyone familiar with jaw pain in relation to Sarcoidosis?
My jaw has been in absolute agony for a week. I went to the dentist who checked out my teeth and all was clear. He did think I might have ground my teeth in my sleep and now have TMJ. However I do have Sarcoidosis, and have been reading that sarcoid can effect your jaw, particularly salivary/parotid glands. Does anyone here have experience with this effect of Sarcoidosis?
A: Possible. See your internist.
Q: What could be causing the lower jaw pain that I feel?
I have pain in my lower right jaw. It hurts to open my mouth. On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d rate the pain as 2. I’m not too concerned about it, but I was just curious as to what might have caused it.
I once hit the top of my head on a cabinet, causing the same pain that I’m feeling now, but this time, I didn’t hit my head or anything. Also, my wisdom tooth was removed from the area that hurts but it was done over a year ago, so I don’t think that that has anything to do with the pain. Also, I’m 19 so I highly doubt that it’s a warning sign of a heart attack.
Also, I just read about TMJ and I’m almost 100% positive that that’s the joint that’s hurt. Can the TMJ pain go away on its own or do I need to see a dentist?
A: u need to see a dentist …coz it’s certainly related to tmj….it might be slightly dislocated and the dentist can return it back to position ….or u may need some medications ….it’s not a big matter don’t worry and good luck.
Q: What is wrong with me? Slight jaw discomfort, and pain on the left side on my jaw.?

A: you could have a gum infection
Q: what are some natural/ herbal remedies for jaw pain?
my husband recently had his wisdom teeth removed and in doing so they needed to dislocate the right side of his jaw. He is experiencing a lot of pain. I’ve been on line searching for herbal/natural remedies for his jaw pain but i can’t find anything substantial. Can anyone help?
A: comin from a redneck from the south – a can of copenhagen.
Q: jaw pain and headaches from wisdom teeth?
I’m getting my wisdom teeth out in April but I’ve been getting pain in my jaw, and headaches for the last couple months. Is this normal?
A: Yes, it’s normal, i’m having the same problem plus my ear hurts like heck too. i get mine out tomorrow….yeah
Q: I got my wisdom teeth pulled about a month ago and I had pain in my lower jaw?
and it runs along into the front section of my neck. Also I feel like my teeth don’t fit correctly so if i try to hold my teeth together normally it begins hurting. Also its hard to go to sleep at night because of the jaw pain and the neck pain and I’m thinking that I might have TMJ could anyone tell me what the problem could be?
I thought after getting my wisdom teeth out the pain would go away but thats not the case.
A: if the wisdom tooth is removed, it could be some other problem. Go back & get it checked. Take OPG radiograph.
Q: why does my teeth in the lower right jaw pain while in contact with water ?
they are not decayed but still the pain is unbearable.
A: you can’t always see decay, you might have a cavity
go see the dentist : )
Q: What is a brain mri and what does it show? How is the brain mri done? Should it be done for jaw pain?
I have already had other test, facial cat scan, dental exams, echo and stress test. Still no answer. Dr. thinks it is a muscle in the jaw. Hurts like a tooth ache that will not go away.
A: MRI means Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It uses really strong magnets turned on and off to align ions in your body. While this is happening a sensor detects the changes in the ions and turns them into a very detailed visual image of whatever body part is being targeted. Sometimes a fluid called contrast is injected into a vein at the same time the increase the visibility. If you are having jaw pain you may be having a head MRI which will look at your entire head not just your brain. It is very good at detecting cancers and other diseased tissue.
