Q: Is my blood pressure too low?
My blood pressure is 94 over 54. I am an eighteen year old male and am not overweight. I have experienced no symptoms usually associated with low blood pressure, but from time to time I become dizzy and experience temporary blurring of my vision when I stand up from a seated position. Is my low blood pressure the cause of this, and could it become a problem?
A: Your bottom # is low, and that could very well be the cause of the symptoms you are experiencing. I would maybe ask a doctor or a nurse friend what they think. Especially if you are feeling faint ever. I wouldn’t be too, too worried, but I would check it out.
Q: I got 92/55 on a at home blood pressure test. Do I have really low blood pressure?
I took an at home blood pressure test because I’ve been having symptoms that might be because of low blood pressure such as lightheaded dizziness, entire body trembling, etc. I took the test twice it read 96/54 then 92/55. I am a 14 year old female athlete. I am trying to single out what exactly is wrong with me so, do i have low blood pressure?
A: how did you take you blood pressure? was it one of those digital wrist or arm ones? If so then I HIGHLY doubt it’s right in fact I can pretty much guarantee it’s wrong. Those thing are very unreliable. The only true way to me to get a BP is the good old BP cuff and stethoscopes . Those symptoms could be from something other than low BP 120 is a normal Systolic (top number) number. A normal diastolic (bottom number) is 80. So ideal BP is 120/80. If your blood pressure reading is 90/60 or lower, you have low blood pressure. but talk to your parents it may having nothing to do with BP
Q: Low blood pressure and Ramadaan?
I have been fasting since Ramadaan started. Today, I have been feeling extremely faint and light headed and my heart is racing. I read that these are symptoms of low blood pressure. I naturally suffer from low blood pressure so I am slightly worried about these symptoms as I have not experienced them since the start of Ramadaan. Is it permissible for me to break my fast?
A: If a person is sick and by continuing the fast sickness is likely to increase, than you can break the fast. But you have to make it up later.
Q: low blood pressure? is it dangerous?
ive been bk and forward to my g.p for the past 6mths with symptom of low blood pressure she did a few tests on my n showed up i have low blood pressure 100/55? i have symptoms like dizzyness, feeling of balanced, seeing dots like what you get just b4 a head ake or stand to quickly! but ive started to have nose bleeds aswell n if feels like i have a huge amount of pressure in my nose and the need to bleed all the time? is this normal? and when i honk it up there is clots init?
what should i do it sliped my mind about telling my g.p should i be worried and is there enything for my blood pressure?
A: Low blood pressure is NOT healthy.
The blood is one of the delivery systems in your body. Along with water and salt, it delivers nutrients and oxygen to all parts of the body and takes away the toxins. When your blood pressure is too low, many of these nutrients don’t get delivered properly and a lot of toxins don’t get removed.
Your blood pressure really isn’t that low, although you should still correct it.
Both high blood pressure and low blood pressure are caused by the same thing – dehydration.
When you don’t drink enough water, the body will sometimes borrow the water it needs from the blood (blood is made up of 94% water and salt). With high blood pressure, when the water is taken from the blood, the arteries constrict and the blood thickens due to less volume. This requires the heart to have to exert more pressure to pump the blood through the narrowed cardiovascular system.
With low blood pressure, when the water is borrowed from the blood, the arteries DON’T constrict – they remain open, and so the heart can’t pump up adequate pressure, and so you get the lower readings.
Both high and low blood pressure are treated the same way – increase your water and salt intake. By “water” I don’t mean anything under the sun that contains water, I mean “water” – period. Those other drinks act like diuretics and pull out as much as 50% more water than they provide – this is what caused your problem in the first place. Substituting for pure, simple water causes dehydration over time and can result in serious health problems such as high or low blood pressure.

Q: What are the risks of low blood pressure during pregnancy?
I’m waiting on a phone call from my doctor’s office to see if he want’s me to set up an appointment for sometime this week. I keep having dizzy spells and seeing stars among other symptoms of low blood pressure. (Disoriented, changes in breathing patterns, drastic paling of skin, sudden feeling of being very cold, etc) I checked my blood pressure a little while after the dizzy spell I had today and my blood pressure was indeed fairly low. My BP is usually normal at my doctor’s appts, but it is alot lower after I have these dizzy spells. They normally occur when standing for a period of time. (anywhere between 5-30 min) Low blood pressure also runs in my family.
If it turns out that low blood pressure is the cause of all of this, what are the risks to my baby? Has anyone personally had this before? If it’s not low blood pressure, any ideas as to what it could be? I’m 31wks 3days

Low blood pressure during pregnancy – causes and treatment
By : Sophia Levis
Low blood pressure (also called hypotension) is often associated with fainting and dizziness. In general, low blood pressure is not considered a health risk in the same way that high blood pressure is. However, during pregnancy especially, fainting and falling due to low blood pressure can be of serious concern.
The greatest cause of high blood pressure tends to be dehydration. When the body dehydrates it drastically affects to flow of blood in the body. Additionally, being very hot can contribute to low blood pressure. Standing for a long period of time can also be a risk factor.
While you are pregnant, there are other factors that can cause low blood pressure. Pregnancy causes blood to pool in your legs, making less blood available to the brain. Thus, when you rise from a laying or sitting position you may feel dizzy or faint. This can also cause vision problems in a pregnant woman.
Low blood pressure may or may not require treatment. The treatment of low blood pressure is directed toward the underlying cause; if low blood pressure is caused by dehydration, it may be treated by a physician with intravenous fluids. If it is caused by pooling blood, your physician may recommend graduated compression stockings. A little extra salt may also help, but in this case you need to discuss the other risks with your physician.
There are some things you can do to prevent low blood pressure:
- Drink plenty of fluids, especially water
- Lay on your side, rather than on your back. This may also help with back and sciatic nerve pain.
- If you feel faint, sit down. Put your head lower than your body until you no longer feel faint.
- When getting up from the sitting position, take it slowly.
- Regular exercise helps keep blood pressure normal. Keep up with your physician-approved exercise regimen.
I hope this helps you to better know the risks involved in low blood pressure during pregnancy,

Q: low blood pressure do you think?
i am stressed a lot of the time and have suffered with panic attacks in the past (long story but it is to do with school..) i don’t go any more (i am 15 and schooled from home) but i still find it very hard to go into certain shops and things. so that is mostly what the stress is about. i also get hot easily (though i do feel the cold i just cant stand to be sat by the fire for too long or anything) but i get very slight dizziness sometimes and hot flushes (though not too bad, and i only really get them if i think about things that i am worried about, also i can just go into a cooler place and it goes) although i know it is probably just to do with the stress these can also be symptoms of low blood pressure (or so i read) i wondered what you can do to get rid of ow blood pressure (it is worth a try and if not then i will know it is probably stress) any advise please =]
thank you very much ‘tr’, guess i just needed someone else’s opinions =] xx
A: it isn’t low blood pressure, its stress, like you said your stressed around the same time as you get these symptoms, i would say that the are mild anxiety attacks.
Q: How does stress cause Low Blood Pressure?
Ok for about 2 years now I have been getting symptoms of low blood pressure on the odd occasion, not too often and not very severe. But recently over the last few week the symptoms have been getting worse and happening more regularly. This has been since a new girl has joined in our group of friends, and for some reason taken a disliking to me. Sometimes she will look at me horribly or say really spiteful things, and it will upset so I will just walk away because I do not want to fight. I am not crying but around when she does this, normally while I am walking away. I just suddenly feel really weak, I cannot hold up my head or walk properly, my whole body just slows down, I get really dizzy and light headed, sometimes I just feel like I am going to faint, and I have fainted.
But what actually causes this?
How does it happen?
Do I have any control over it?
A: You already had low blood pressure to begin with, but it is now more apparent due to the stress of being around a nasty and insecure (yes!) girl. Shock/stress will lower it even further. People with high blood pressure usually experience the opposite when they are upset. There is a link between emotions and bp. Unfortunately, all medication for hypotension was recently removed form the market. I know, because I am one of those people suffering as a result.
I agree that you need to stand up to this emotional bully. Only don’t do it in the heat of the moment! Do it when you are both calm and preferably sitting down. Tell her point blank that she has a mean spirited attitude towards you and ask her if she’s aware of it (just to be fair). You have to be the bigger person here and take on a non-confrontational position, but demand that you settle this once and for all. If she and your friends gang up against you, then it really is time to wave goodbye to this unhealthy situation and find worthwhile people to hang out with. Trust me, you don’t want to wait until your 10th reunion to stand up for yourself. Do it now and then enjoy your new found confidence. Good luck.
Q: Health question about axienty and depression and low blood pressure.?
My doctor has prescibed medicine for axienty and depression but i have all the symptoms of low blood pressure.
*Before I go into the doctors office I take axienty pill to calm me because I’m afraid of doctors office.
*The one time i didn’t take a pill before going, they asked if I had low blood pressure and I just said no.
I think I might.
Here are my symptoms I have.
*laying to standing, blackouts.
*light headed
*dizzy
*headaches
*heart beat changes from fast to slow.
What does it seem like I have.
Ask questions if needed and I will reply.
A: Sounds like a few symptoms sound like orthostatic hypotention which can also be caused by anxiety attacks. Headaches, dizziness, light headed; blacking out can all be signs of panic attacks.
You need to get your pressure investigated & your heart checked. Also if you are an athlete, that can cause low blood pressure.
You can also have vasovagal syncope if you are fainting.
Make sure you stay well hydrated.
Sounds like you have both.

Q: Can being VEGAN make you have low blood pressure? Please help!?
I am a 29 year old male, 5′11 medium build. I have always been on the most part had a healty diet but I just recently became VEGAN and have ben for about 2 months. I eat NO animal products NO MEAT, NO DAIRY, NO SEAFOOD, NO CHEESE and diets consist of grain, fruits, vegetable, nuts, soy ect. I have been taking B12 supplements as well. Today I had to use the bathroom. #2 of course and I started shaking and got light headed, lips got numb and started to sweat just a little. After I went to the bathroom I went and checked my blood pressure for the hell of it and it was like 110/70. Before I became VEGAN my pressure was normally around 135/80 which was pretty good still. Now that my pressure is 110/70 is that too low for a man 5′11 185 lbs with a thin/medium muscular build. Is my pressure is 110/70 was my symptoms from possible low blood pressure and if it was, is my low blood pressure from my extreme VEGAN fatless diet that consist of nothing but vegies fruit, grain, and soy?
A: could be that before your vegan diet you were getting or consuming a certain amount of lead in your diet. sometimes lead gives you high blood pressure. And then your vegan diet cleaned out some of the lead and so your blood pressure in un-bounding. These first couple of months mean your body is adjusting to the new diet. Your funny sypmtoms should subside in a couple of months. Keep the faith …
Q: What is causing low diastolic blood pressure and other symptoms and can I do anything?
I have been feeling very tired and week. I constantly need to lie down during day. I sleep for hours at night and still can’t get up. I borrowed a blood pressure checking device and made notes of my bp each day. My diastolic BP is rarely above the 50s. I can have BP for the systolic reading at normal levels but diastolic always low and in mornings it all is low. I have bad visual disturbances but I have had my eyes checked and are ok. I feel sometimes as though I just can’t focus and feel not with it at all. Yet, my vision gets really poor and washed out. I wonder what is going on. I had general health checks done and they are ok. No one has monitored my BP though until I used this machine as I just want to understand why I am nearly falling asleep at the wheel of my car some days. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I am late 30s, male. I went through a lot of family stress over last few years. I started to put on weight even though I am not a big eater (was 81kg and now hovers at100kg) and lose a bit and put back on quickly with no great variation in diet…….I look very puffy in mornings and eyelids are constantly swollen. I was studying at uni this year but nothing I can think of that must be making me feel this way long term.
last 3 years but it has been bad lately. I fall asleep in chairs in middle of day and when I wake up room is flickering like mad and that takes awhile to subside.
A: Blood pressure varies from person to person and also during the day. Some people have a diastolic blood pressure on the lower side and it is perfectly normal. A diastolic blood pressure of 50 is fine as long as you do not have lightheadedness or dizziness. The other symptoms you are describing are unlikely to be related to the diastolic blood pressure. The visual symptoms you are describing are not related to a low diastolic pressure. Falling asleep while driving is unlikely to be related to your blood pressure, but certainly should be investigated. Make sure you are getting enough restful sleep. You may also be evaluated for sleep apnea, because daytime drowsiness is a sign of this. You should see your doctor about this. The other symptoms are minor, but falling asleep while driving is dangerous to you and others on the road. Good luck.
Q: How to know whether I have low or high blood pressure? what are the distinguishing symptoms of both?
I have got kina headache in the right side of the head and ear it stresses my eye alittle and alittle in the right side if the chest .
A: You have to get measured with a blood pressure machine. Get the doctor to check you out. There can be allot of symptoms or very little depending on what your bodies tolerance level is.
The severe symptoms of high blood pressure can be slurred speech, jaw tightness, chest pain, feeling heavy, dizzy, fast heart beats which you can notice, sharp cutting pains anywhere in your body etc…
Severe symptoms of low blood pressure include dizziness that makes you almost collapse or collapse, passing out, difficulty getting up, blacking out etc
Grab a aspirin for temporary fix, and go see a doctor tomorrow!
Q: Anyone have problems with low blood pressure?
Hi everyone — I have just been diagnosed with low blood pressure…all disease-based causes of it have been ruled out with blood test (Addison’s disease, diabetes, etc.). I have low blood pressure really bad in the mornings. My symptoms are seeing spots, feeling weak, and very tired. I’m taking two salt pills in the morning and drinking lots of water, and also sleeping with my head elevated, but that doesn’t seem to do the trick. Anyone here deal with this problem and have any ways of treating it that’ve helped?
A: How much is “lots of water”?
Do you drink anything else besides water? Soft drinks, coffee, energy drinks and other alternatives contribute to dehydration – which is the cause of your low blood pressure.
You seem to be doing the right things – but perhaps not enough. (Sleeping with the head elevated may help heartburn, but it doesn’t do a thing for low blood pressure.)
First of all, let’s find out how dehydration affects low blood pressure.
When you don’t drink enough water the body senses a drought condition and rations the water to make it available to the major organs like the brain, kidneys, liver, etc.
It then goes on a quest for additional water sources. One of the more common sources is the blood, since the blood contains 94% water and salt. Taking the water from the blood causes the arteries to constrict and the blood to thicken – which requires the heart to exert more pressure to pump the blood. This results in high blood pressure.
In low blood pressure, the same thing happens, except the arteries do not constrict, leaving open spaces where the heart can’t build up adequate pressure.
The fix for both is the same – increase water and salt intake, which you seem to be doing. But again, how much are you doing?
One of the problems I can see is the two salt tablets. This isn’t enough. Salt retains water and if you’re not taking in enough salt, then you’re not taking in enough water. Any soft drinks you may be drinking can pull out as much as 50% more water than they provide – leaving your water levels even lower.
The formula for increasing hydration and maintaining proper water levels is to drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day and add 1/8 tsp of salt per 16 ounces. Translated, this means if you weigh 180 lbs. you should be drinking 90 oz of water per day and taking 1/8 tsp of salt per 16 oz. These amounts should be broken up over the course of the day.

Q: Low blood pressure question!?
I exercise and run everyday, but when I stand up really quickly after lying or sitting down for about 30 minutes or so I get a little light headed. I read on the internet that this was a symptom of low blood pressure… Should I go and see a doctor? Is this normal? Any help greatly appreciated thanks!
A: It’s probably normal for you, but what’s normal for you could be abnormal for someone else. For example, my blood pressure is normally 90/60, but for someone else, that could be horribly low. I don’t think it’s something to rush to a doctor for, but you might want to bring it up at your next appointment.
Q: Is My Blood Pressure Too Low!?!?!?!? 17 Year Old Girl!!!!?
I am 17 and have had very mild high blood pressure for a couple of years now.
I was on the lowest dose (2.5mg) and I felt like my blood pressure was up, so I doubled up on the dose and now take 5mg. The Doctors don’t know this. I have been taking my blood pressure today a couple of times, and it has been 106 over 48 (when i was completely relaxed)….and when i’m relaxed, the lower number does not go over 50 something. Which seems very low. When I was arguing with my Mum and all stressed and standing up, it was 128 over 78. The second number is still lower than normal, even though I was stressed!
I have been feeling dizzy and lightheaded since I have doubled up, and I have been having what I thought were mild anxiety attacks….. but I have read now that a ‘feeling of impending doom’ which is what I have been feeling a few times each day, is a symptom of low blood pressure. Is that why I have been feeling anxious, drowsy and feeling like I am going to faint when I first stand up?
I really hope so, because I thought I had an anxiety disorder or soemthing!
Should I go back to my normal 2.5 dose until I see my Doctor (next week)?
Thankyouu x
A: Dear friend jennifer, First of all u have not explained why have u been started of the BP tablets of 2.5 mg and U have also not told what kind of the tablets they have prescribed i.e., u have not mentioned the name of the drug or the medication… If u tell them as an additional information I can help U more… Any way, know some of these facts about the BP and they might help U…
1) At the age of 17 and a Girl will usually have a very low blood pressures and they are normal… We have noted that most of the young girls have the BP in the range of 100 / 60… So whatever the BP u have is normal… and 128/78 is also absolutely normal…
2) But 106/48, 48 is called diastolic BP and its low… This might be the consequence of the Blood pressure tablets u are taking, the nature of which i do not know…
3) Never ever increase a BP medication without the doctors advice.. This is a strict principle to be followed…
4) The feeling of impending doom and Faintness on standing are all due to low blood pressure itself… I seriously doubt whether u really need blood pressure medication or not…
5) Dizziness, light headedness, drowsiness, anxiety everything is due to the sudden fall in the bloodpressure and reduced blood supply to ur brain..
6) Go back to ur doctor as soon as possible to clear al the doubts…
7) till u go back, take only 2.5 mg tab which was prescribed to u by the doctor….
Take care
Q: Do I have low blood pressure?
I am a teen and my blood pressure is 107/55. My symptoms include: always thirsty, lightheaded, dizziness, when standing sometimes. Also if i have low blood pressure should I higher my salt intake. What number to higher it too. I eat about 2,200 milligrams now with a lot of exercise everyday.
A: Your diastolic is too low but it’s probably from dehydration, drink more water, leave caffeine alone, it’s a diuretic which means it makes you pee a lot of fluids out. Did you people not read his diastolic is 55, it’s not ok. Normal BP can run from 90/60 to 120/80 but you are having dizziness & lightheadedness, this is not good and indicates a BP problem but probably dehydration. Exercise will take the fluids out of you also so some electrolytes like gatorade will help put those back. I think your BP will be just fine with more liquids & gatorade and these people who think it’s ok now need to get a life, they don’t know what they are talking about. You are having symptoms with a low BP, that should tell them something, even the “Doc”, yea, right!
